Julio is a young lawyer from the southern coast of Peru and a Bertha Legal Fellow. He identifies as indigenous Afro-Peruvian and studied law at the National University of the Altiplano in Puno. Starting in 2012 he worked with the Aymara and Quechua indigenous peoples of Puno, strengthening their capacities and promoting their rights, while developing expertise in strategic litigation through the Institute of Legal Defense. Julio participated in our Seminar for Indigenous Lawyers in 2015. He is passionate about defending human rights and the environment.
