ERI is now accepting applications for prospective participants for the inaugural session of its EarthRights School-Mekong. Grassroots workers from the six countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), Yunnan Province/China, Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, who are currently working or volunteering with civil society groups focusing on human rights and the environment are invited to apply. The six month-long training program will focus this year on hydro-development, water issues and International Financial Institutions. The intensive course includes workshops on human rights and environmental law, documentation, media messaging and international advocacy and campaigning. The program also includes a two month field project. The program will provide the students with the intercultural skills, substantive knowledge and experience to voice their individual and collective concerns about IFI-funded hydroelectric projects and related human rights, transparency and participation issues within the GMS.
