Introduction
Reception Invite

Rashida Bee and Champa Devi Shukla, residents of Bhopal, India and survivors of the 1984 Union Carbide gas leak that killed over 20,000 people, were presented with the 2004 Goldman Environmental Prize last week in recognition of their activist work over the past two decades. This week, EarthRights International is co-sponsoring a reception in their honor in New York City.

As trade union leaders and grassroots activists, Bee and Shukla have mobilized an international campaign to seek justice for their community. Bhopal residents continue to struggle with ongoing health problems, serious environmental contamination, and economic hardship as a result of the world's worst industrial chemical disaster.

EarthRights International is co-counsel in a lawsuit in US court against Union Carbide (now owned by Dow Chemical) seeking redress for ongoing pollution and contamination in Bhopal.
